Why Do Window Replacement Quotes Vary So Much?
Why Can Window Quotes Be So Different?
It isn't unusual for a homeowner to receive three window quotes that are thousands—or even tens of thousands—of dollars apart.
That doesn't necessarily mean one company is overcharging or another company is offering a bargain.
You may be comparing completely different products, installation methods, and business models.
Renewal by Andersen
Renewal by Andersen is a premium, vertically integrated replacement-window system. They sell an exclusive Fibrex composite window together with their consultation, measurement, installation, warranty, and service process.
For homeowners who want one specific premium product and one company managing the entire experience, that model has real value.
But you're also limited to the Renewal by Andersen product system. If another material, manufacturer, or price point makes more sense for your home, comparing alternatives may be worthwhile.
Factory-Direct Window Companies
Companies such as Wallside manufacture and install their own replacement windows. This can create an efficient factory-direct model and often provides a more value-focused alternative to premium national replacement companies.
The tradeoff is product selection. A company manufacturing its own vinyl window naturally has an incentive to sell that window.
Wallside, for example, specializes in made-to-order vinyl replacement windows manufactured at its Michigan factory.
Large Home-Improvement Companies
Companies such as Hansons may offer several performance levels within their own replacement-window program.
That can provide homeowners with good, better, and best choices, but those choices may still primarily exist within one company's selected product system.
Hansons currently lists three vinyl-window tiers ranging from a basic double-pane product to a premium triple-pane window.
Lowe's and Home-Improvement Retailers
Big-box retailers operate differently again.
Lowe's, for example, offers windows from multiple manufacturers—including Pella, JELD-WEN, Reliabilt and others—and offers installation through independent professional installers.
That gives homeowners a wide range of products and price points, but the retail store, manufacturer, installation company, and homeowner may all be separate parties in the project.
Where Does Elite Window & Door Fit?
Our approach is intentionally somewhere in the middle.
We don't manufacture one window that we need to sell you, and we aren't limited to an entry-level product simply to hit the lowest possible price.
Instead, we can compare products from manufacturers such as Pella, ProVia and other established brands across different materials, performance levels and budgets.
That means a homeowner looking for a quality vinyl replacement window doesn't have to pay for a premium wood or fiberglass product they don't need. At the same time, someone who wants fiberglass, wood-clad construction, upgraded glass, premium colors or architectural options isn't limited to a basic vinyl window.
Most importantly, we pair those choices with an installation process built around the same flashing, waterproofing, insulation and installation standards regardless of which product you purchase.
Our goal is to provide factory-level installation quality without forcing every homeowner into one factory's product or pricing model.
So Why Are the Quotes So Far Apart?
Because you're rarely comparing just a window.
You're paying for some combination of:
The actual window
Material and performance level
Glass package
Custom options
Installation method
Installation labor
Warranty and service
Sales commissions
Advertising
Financing programs
Company overhead
The way the company chooses to bring its product to market
That's why we recommend comparing what you're getting, not just the number at the bottom of the page.
A $20,000 proposal and a $40,000 proposal may legitimately represent two very different projects.
But sometimes they may represent surprisingly similar products delivered through very different business models.
Understanding that difference is where homeowners can make a much better decision.
